At Mountainville Academy, we believe that the character students develop while they are young is of vital importance, and that as students advance to greater knowledge and understanding of the concepts they learn, they should be given the tools to express that knowledge in constructive and meaningful ways.   Consistent with our philosophy, mission and vision, Mountainville Academy integrates the enduring value of character education to enhance personal excellence and help build individuals who emulate virtuous behavior such as integrity, respect, leadership, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship.

  • Core Virtues by Mary Beth Klee. Core Virtues is a literature-based approach to character education on the Kindergarten to 6th Grade level.  The program promotes virtues through classical literature that exemplifies positive behaviors and character traits, awakening a love of the good by focusing on strong historical and present-day men and women who have made or are making a difference.  Their example inspires young minds to ask, “Who do I want to be like?”  These character qualities are reinforced through a code of conduct based on modeling and practicing responsibility, self-discipline, respect, kindness, honesty and other virtues.  It was designed to correlate with Core Knowledge, although it was developed independently.
     
  • The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey.  The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens is a step-by step guide that applies the timeless principles of the 7 Habits to teens and the life-changing decisions they face, to help them achieve their goals, make good decisions, apply positive character traits, resist peer pressure, build effective relationships, and improve their self worth.
