Things That Are Totally Win-Win at Mountainville Academy
- Alexis Given in Mrs. Trelz’s 3rd grade class performed at the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival during Bedtime Stories on Friday, September 3rd. She was amazing!
- For four years in a row (the entire existence of Mountainville) we have had a 100% pass rate on the Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2 CRT’s!! This is a tremendous accomplishment for our students and teachers and a testimony to our math program. Way to go Mountainville!
Carpool Update:
As we get into the school year, we are noticing fewer and fewer carpools coming at 7:40am and more and more coming at 7:50am or later. It is a HUGE win for everyone if more people come at 7:40am. The lines will be shorter and our students will be safer (all well as on time) if we proactively leave 10 minutes earlier for school. PLEASE help everyone win by coming at 7:40am. Thanks!
Uniform Dress Code Moment:
Non-uniform sweaters may not be worn in the classroom. As the weather begins to get cooler, please send school approved uniform sweaters to wear in the classroom.
Leader in Me Lighthouse Team Update:
The Lighthouse Team is a group of teachers and administrators that are the guardians of the Leader in Me Program at Mountainville Academy. You may begin to notice a lot of new and exciting items on the walls around our school. They are scorecards that help us track our progress on our school-wide goals. The first is our lighthouse that is located across from Mrs. Vance’s room. It will measure the criteria that we meet to become an official Leader in Me Lighthouse School. The second is Mountainville’s Mission Statement Mountain located in the 2nd and 3rd grade hallway. This will help us track every homeroom, house and team mission statement for this year. We will have other scorecards coming soon. Look here for updates on our progress. In addition, every Friday we will have our WIG WAM (Wildly Important Goal Weighing and Measuring) meeting from 7:35-7:40. Please feel free to come and see what this is all about!

Mountainville Fall Math Facts Challenge
Mountainville Academy will be having a “Math Facts Challenge” starting Monday, August 30. The focus is on practicing math facts at home. Students will set a goal to practice their math facts 60 minutes a week and will have a chart to track their progress. Prizes will be awarded to everyone who participates. Chick Fil A has agreed to donate 700 kid’s meals to Mountainville Academy for those students who participate.
The school has FREE use of the award winning TIMEZ ATTACK game until mid-September. This is a computer game where students can practice their times tables. http://www.bigbrainz.com/DownloadSchools.html The password is student. Every student can download the program at their home and play the video game which teaches multiplication tables. The video game usually costs $50.00 so this is a valuable free trial they have given to the school and the students.
There is a list of useful websites on the form but teachers may also want to print out additional math facts worksheets for students to take home. This challenge is to be done completely at home. The only things that teachers need to do are to encourage their students to practice. You’ll be getting the forms in your box within the next day or two. Please contact Jen Wilson with any questions.
Japanese Classes
After-school Japanese Classes! We are trying to determine if there is an interest in having after-school Japanese classes offered at Mountainville Academy.
The course would cover the following:
- Learning the Japanese language and culture through fun activities (games, role plays, songs, picture books, origami, etc.)
- Basic Conversation (greetings, self-introduction, useful sentences for traveling in Japan.) Pronunciation works
- Recognition of some Hiragana, and Katakana (2 forms of Japanese Alphabet.)
- Exchanging letters with Japanese students (optional.)
This after-school activity would be for students in 4th-8th grade, be 12-15 weeks in length and have a small fee associated with it. If you think your student would be interested, please email fso@mountainvilleacademy.org.
